About Us
Church History
The Church of Christ Graz was founded in 1964 by missionaries from the American Restoration Movement, a 19th Century Christian revivalist movement that aimed to take Christianity back to its New Testament roots. (The a-cappella singing in the Church originates from this). Over the years the Church met at various venues around Graz, until it secured Schillerplatz 5 as its fixed abode in the late 1970s. From its foundation until 1992 the Church was led by preachers, and since then it has been collectively overseen by dedicated Church members. Since 2000 a number of African asylum seekers have joined the Church, thus lending it a more intercultural and multilingual character. Today the Church has approximately 30 members.
Please join us for our services and activities.
Sunday Worship Service – 9:30 to 11:00 (German and English)
Every Sunday morning we all come together to express our love and praise towards God and our saviour Jesus Christ – we sing, learn from God’s Holy Word and we share in communion, a time to commemorate Jesus’ life, death and resurrection to defeat sin, by sharing bread and wine symbolising his selfless sacrifice for mankind.
Once a month we have a fellowship lunch after our normal service time – everyone is invited to participate.
Bible Study – Thursdays 19:00 to 20:30 (German)
But Jesus told him “No! The Scriptures say, (Genesis 8,3): ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God’” – Matthew 4,4
If you are interested in learning more about the Bible, whether young or old, with or without prior knowledge, we invite you to our weekly German Bible study. During our time, our small group reads, learns and discusses from Biblical texts. We hope to see you there.
Small Home Study Groups (German and English)
Small groups are an old but still effective form of fellowship. The early Christians met in their homes to practice their faith. This style of fellowship helps us to meet our needs for building good relationships with others and to interact with them in a spirit of mutual trust. Small groups offer the opportunity to praise God, read the Bible, to discuss life and faith issues, pray for one another support each other and simply enjoy time together. In the life of our Church small groups complement (but not replace) the Sunday worship service very in an important way.
Some small groups are still in the process of establishing themselves, and we encourage all visitors to our Church to join one of them or even start a new small group.
Children’s Classes and Activities
Our church has a lovely room designed exclusively for children’s activities.
During the sermon, children can attend our Sunday school. We have two groups, one is aimed at younger children from toddlers up to age 7, while children over 7 have a separate group.
For children, learning about God begins a life-long relationship with our saviour Jesus Christ. Every Sunday morning our small but dedicated team helps children feel the love of God and the wonderful plans he has for them through interactive learning, creative activities and fun games.
Other activities for children occasionally take place outside Sunday worship time.
A great highlight of the year is attending one of the summer Bible camps, hosted by the Church of Christ in Vienna during July at Schwarzwaldeckhaus in Niederösterreich.
